A Softer, Cleaner Candle Experience: Why We Use Soy Coconut Wax
A Softer, Cleaner Candle Experience: Why We Use Soy Coconut Wax
If you’ve been around here for a bit, you probably know we care a lot about fragrance. The kind that makes a house feel warm, lived-in, and welcoming. The kind that reminds you of a season, a place, a memory, or a quiet little moment you wish you could bottle up.
When we started making candles, we knew we didn’t want something harsh or overpowering. We wanted candles that felt cozy and natural — something you could light in the evening, on a slow morning, or while you’re folding laundry with the windows cracked open.
That’s one of the reasons we use a soy coconut wax blend.
Years ago, my husband was diagnosed with stage 3, non-sun related melanoma cancer, and like so many families who walk through something like that, it changed the way we looked at a lot of things. We had always leaned toward a more holistic way of living, but during and after that season, we became even more aware of what we were putting on our skin, breathing in our home, and bringing into our everyday spaces.
That experience didn’t make us perfect, and we’re not here to scare anyone or make big claims. It simply made us more intentional.
So when it came to making candles, the wax mattered to us. The fragrance mattered. The way the candle burned in a real home mattered. We wanted something that felt cozy and beautiful, but also aligned with the more mindful way we were trying to live.
We actually started with soy wax
When we first started making candles, we used soy wax. Soy is a popular choice for a reason — it’s familiar, plant-based, and has a nice clean burn.
But over time, as we kept testing and learning, we wanted a wax that gave us a smoother finish, a creamier look, and a better overall candle experience. That’s what led us to switch to a soy coconut wax blend.
For us, the blend felt like the right balance. It still gives us the natural, cozy candle we wanted, but with a softer, smoother finish and improved fragrance performance compared to the straight soy wax we started with.
Like anything handmade, candle making is a lot of testing, tweaking, and learning as you go. We’re always paying attention to how our candles burn, how the fragrance carries, and how they feel in a real home — not just on a shelf.
Why not coconut wax alone?
Coconut wax is beautiful, and there are a lot of things to love about it. It can have a creamy finish, a lovely fragrance throw, and a very soft, smooth appearance.
But for our candles, we wanted the best overall balance — not just one single benefit.
A soy coconut blend gives us the cozy, natural candle experience we love while also helping with consistency, structure, burn quality, and how the candles hold up from our workshop to your home.
Since we hand-pour in Texas and ship candles to customers and boutiques across the country, we need a wax that performs well in real life — not just in perfect testing conditions. The blend gives us the smoothness and fragrance benefits we were looking for, while still keeping the candle stable and dependable.
For us, soy coconut wax felt like the right fit: soft and creamy, but still practical for everyday burning, gifting, shipping, and stocking on store shelves.
Why soy coconut wax?
Soy coconut wax gives our candles a smooth, clean, slow burn. It has a soft, creamy look and holds fragrance beautifully, but in a more natural way than some traditional candle waxes.
We love it because it fits the kind of candle we want to make: simple, warm, and easy to enjoy every day.
Our candles are meant to add fragrance to your space without taking over the whole house. They’re cozy, comforting, and room-enhancing — not headache-heavy or overpowering.
Paraffin wax is widely used in the candle industry and is known for strong fragrance throw, but it wasn’t the best fit for the kind of candle we wanted to make. We wanted something softer, creamier, and more aligned with our handmade, nature-inspired approach.
Our soy coconut blend gives us a candle that feels cozy, smooth, and intentional — with a more natural fragrance experience that’s meant to enhance a room, not overpower it.
What to expect from a soy coconut candle
Soy coconut wax candles can smell a little different than heavily fragranced paraffin candles. They often have a softer, more natural scent throw, especially while burning.
That doesn’t mean the candle isn’t working. It just means the fragrance experience is different.
A soy coconut candle is usually best enjoyed in spaces like:
-
Bedrooms
-
Bathrooms
-
Offices
-
Entryways
-
Cozy living rooms
-
Smaller spaces where the fragrance has room to settle
In large, open-concept rooms with high ceilings, fans, lots of airflow, or big open spaces, the scent may feel lighter. That’s true for many natural wax candles, especially compared to candles made with waxes designed for a very strong fragrance throw.
Every scent behaves a little differently
One thing we’ve learned over the years is that every fragrance has its own personality.
Some scents are naturally bold and fill a room more easily. Others are soft, delicate, and meant to stay closer. Fresh, clean, floral, bakery, woodsy, and earthy scents can all perform a little differently in wax.
That’s why you may notice one candle feels stronger than another, even if they’re made the same way. It’s not always about the amount of fragrance — sometimes it’s just the nature of the scent itself.
We’re currently working on a simple scent strength guide for our candles so you’ll know what to expect before you buy. Each scent will eventually be marked as Soft, Medium, or Bold to help you choose the best candle for your space.
How to get the best scent from your candle
A few little candle care habits can make a big difference.
For the best burn and fragrance throw:
-
Let your candle burn long enough for the wax to melt evenly across the top.
-
We recommend burning for about 2–4 hours at a time.
-
Trim your wick before each burn.
-
Keep your candle away from strong drafts, fans, and open windows.
-
Use the right size candle for the room you’re placing it in.
Candles need a little time to warm up and release fragrance. Lighting one for just a few minutes usually won’t give it enough time to fully bloom.
Want a stronger fragrance experience?
If you love a stronger scent in your home, we always recommend layering your fragrance.
That might mean using a candle in a bedroom or office, then pairing it with a room spray, wax melts, reed diffuser, or car diffuser in other spaces.
Wax melts and room sprays are especially nice when you want a more noticeable fragrance quickly. Candles are more of a slow, cozy, lingering kind of fragrance.
Why we still choose soy coconut wax
At the end of the day, we choose soy coconut wax because we love the way it feels in a home.
It’s soft. It’s warm. It burns beautifully. It fits the kind of life we’re drawn to — slower, simpler, and rooted in little everyday moments.
Our candles are not meant to be loud. They’re meant to make your space feel a little more like home.
And if you ever need help choosing the right scent for your space, we’re always happy to point you toward the ones that are softer, stronger, cleaner, cozier, or better for the room you have in mind.
